In the space of two weekends I networked and worked with three London models before Christmas in 2009. I did an early afternoon test shoot with a new (to me) London model called: Ram Kak. I found Ram while networking and searching on Model Mayhem. Looking for people in London, MM is my go to site for finding fresh faces and new models to work with.

The short 2 hour duration photography test shoot in my London flat involved only a couple looks. This was a simple test shoot to find out Ram’s range in modelling and practice my own skills.. which were really pushed in this second shoot of the day due to technical difficulties.
Ram is a cool gentleman, unruffled and kind. I put some good driving atmosphere music on to keep the energy and we were away. He’s the perfect guy for a calm look, hints of emotion but the ability to look directly into the lens with no sense of hesitation or nerves.
We quickly hit our stride and with a few lighting changes and just a few hiccups we got a good range of shots with his jacket, scarf, tie and very cool business mans shirt.
A couple of things saved me towards the end of the shoot:
- Always have backup batteries for lights
- Take a calm breath and logically work through the problems
- Go with simpler lighting to get round issues, if all else fails one light is always enough!
Fortunately I managed to pull the rabbit out of my magicians hat and capture a couple of solid good shots towards the end. I’ve always love the look of a person emerging into light from darkness .. its so simple and it especially looks good in black and white. So classic.
