One of the many things I love about my yearly Greece holiday is live music gigs while watching the sunset. Especially when it’s dear friends, whose music and voices I love.

Let me introduce you to Nicky Mitchell and Lara A King.

Lara a King

Lara A King is a dear friend of mine, comedian, singer and a smile to light up any room. Well known for her comedy, workshops and comedic songs, she is less well known for her songs and covers of other music. A sweet and soulful voice that seeps emotions and feelings into her listeners and takes them on a journey with her. I know her so well for her comedy that this other side of her I only see in Greece .. at sunset, at a bar with cocktails and her fine voice.

Lara is also good friends with Nicky Mitchell, when both are in Lesvos at the same time you’ll find them supporting each other on their gigs, singing one or two songs together in their friends performance. They work and sing together very very well.

Nicky and Lara

Nicky Mitchell (another dear friend) is a jazz and blues singer ,a master with her ‘slider’ on her guitar, still gives me a thrill to hear that. A consummate artist and entertainer, I first heard Nicky sing here at Lesvos about 5 years ago and fell in love with her voice and talent instantly. She introduced me to a Joni Mitchell song ‘You turn me on’ that I now can only hear her version of, I loved it so much on hearing her sing it. I call it my song and she sings this one just for me and my partner, giving me tribute when she does. It means the world every time I hear it.

Check out Nicky’s SoundCloud space online for her music and check out this track she released a few days ago:

She has a wide variety of music that she plays within the blues and jazz genre, if you have a chance to hear her live .. do so! She is around Brighton, UK every so often and Bulgaria. If you see her, tell her Cathie says: ‘Hello’.

So I’ll come back around to the point of this post .. if you have a chance to soak up life, listening to music while the sun sets .. don’t prioritise anything over that moment. Take it, live it, capture a photo, soak in the music, hold your lovelies hand and afterward chat with you friends and tip, then hug your artist friend for sharing their talents and heart with you.

Thank you Lara and Nicky for being such a large part and memory of many fabulous holidays in Lesvos.

Had some fun doing pro selfies in the back garden

Yesterday I was going little crazy during this lockdown isolation. I'm used to working from home but I miss just going out and driving somewhere for a nice walk on the beach or long circular country walk. Instead it was a short walk near home (fortunately still...

Falling in love with the moments among strangers

Falling in love with the moments among strangers

There are times I have my camera with me and I can see moments happening where the light is just right and a beautiful moment is happening in front of me. I fall in love, in joy, in peace, in wonder with these moments among strangers. When a person is looking away and...

A mythical rock of magic

A mythical rock of magic

There's a holiday I go to that has a rock that lots of women swim out to, it's in a magical place called Skala Erresou in Lesvos, Greece. All the hundreds of women who swim to the rock every season are called Rockers. I'm a proud rocker and I miss this swim, the...
