Today I went out to play with a few local photographer buddies and travelled to Digital Splash photo conference / convention, which ever you prefer to call it. I wanted to get my hands on an XT2 camera and a variety of lenses to physically try them. I know want the XT2, fuji 56mm f1.2 and the fuji 10-24mm or the fuji 14mm or 16mm .. or maybe the samyang 12mm which while manual is beautifully sharp.

I’m not going to do a review but so far I’m really enjoying the fast autofocus and the much improved continuous focus tracking, especially for film making. The best part for me was the Fuji walkabout doing street photography with Matt Hart, learning about how he works, some tricks (I’m not divulging, go attend one of his walk talks and go do it) and putting the camera and variety of lenses through their paces. I shot mostly with the 10-24 as its a very family style of lens for me as it was my favourite on my old Nikon bodies I used to use before I become a Fuji fan.

Regardless of what tools you use, its always a pleasure to get out and shoot .. to be able to ask questions, learn from different styles and ways of shooting. I’ve now drifted completely away from being an Aperture Priority + EV adjustment to a fully manual shooter, so much so .. that I had difficulty switching back!

One thing that was a treat after the photo walk was that we got a coupon to be able to have an A3 print of any photo we took today .. so I got this printed SOOC (straight out of camera) and what you see now is the slightly edited version with darker blacks.

Here is more of what I captured today.

The power of a look, a dog portrait

The power of a look, a dog portrait

It's funny how a dog staring at you trying to tell you something, and sunlight at just the right point can be so so powerful. Here's a Mabel stare .. mum, mum, look into my eyes .. I'm trying to tell you something! Followed by a slightly softer look, more of a dog...

A mini blep in the woods

A mini blep in the woods

I've been taking my camera out with me more and more lately, especially while walking with my dog. I'm really enjoying having something to capture mini slices of life, to help me focus on a single moment and not the chaos of life. I loved this little green leaf among...

Long exposures & Markets

Long exposures & Markets

I am pushing my own comfort boundaries and that night, I went to the christmas market with the leeds deaf photography group to practise my BSL, be social with new folks and pick up my camera again for me, to capture the world as I see it. This is what I saw.
