So today I got to meet two wonderful women: Sarah and Shirley, to record their love in a London civil ceremony. I like their differences, the way Shirl calls Sarah ‘poppet’, the way Sarah is so calm and that Shirl writes lists. There are so many little human moments in a wedding and I just want to collect them all and save them. This is why I fall in love with photography, every time a moment like that happens and I get to capture it to treasure and keep. Like the moment Shirl made her vows to Sarah and slipped on her ring.
Todays ceremony was something very dear to my heart: my first gay civil ceremony. I second shot and assisted Kim Hawkins after having my name recommended to her via a Jasmine Star workshop buddy .. it’s all about who you know and networking!
I’m very grateful for this opportunity to see if there are differences between civil unions and weddings aaaand you guessed it, apart from doing paperwork legally a day or two before the ceremony, there is no difference. Also a great benefit is that you can then get married anywhere, indoors or outdoors, it’s absolutely your choice. UK law is then fullfilled and no longer restricts your special day with your family and friends.
I’ve loved being a witness of their love and second photographer today.
Here’s to many more.
