on the topic of Life

Thessaloniki .. it’s one big ass city that sprawls round a huge bay and into the hills. One of my favourite views was coming home at night and looking out of the lights of the city and seeing the huge container ships dotted around the bay .. but that’s another story and one I wish I had a photograph of but .. I don’t.

Today was all about knickers, panties, no thongs or bloomers but regular undies. In Idomeni camp alone, no considering the satellite camps that in nearby, just the main Idomeni camp .. there were approximately 12,000 people there and of those about 4,000 to 5,000 were women. These women do NOT have enough underwear and it become our mission while out there to supply that need. So we went shopping!

We knew that China Town in Thessaloniki has some of the best wholesale warehouses to buy from and we found a few places for various items like lights, solar chargers as well as knickers and we went spent the entire morning visiting everywhere. We finally found our gem. The knicker store!

Don’t judge this place by its appearance .. it is a treasure trove of underwear. Ladies knickers for €0.55 or €0.60 for the plain full knicker undies that we subsequently learned more women liked. So we bought a few hundred today, as well as two ranges of bras to take to camp and figure out which ones the women preferred.

We even blogged about it upon our return on our charity page: Knickers, knickers, knickers and bras!

So that was a very good day of shopping.

I also mentioned that this post covers day 13 as well .. erm .. I got sick at the end of day 12 and didn’t recover quite quickly enough and needed to have day 13 to recover as well. Enough said. Roll on day 14.

The power of a look, a dog portrait

The power of a look, a dog portrait

It's funny how a dog staring at you trying to tell you something, and sunlight at just the right point can be so so powerful. Here's a Mabel stare .. mum, mum, look into my eyes .. I'm trying to tell you something! Followed by a slightly softer look, more of a dog...

A mini blep in the woods

A mini blep in the woods

I've been taking my camera out with me more and more lately, especially while walking with my dog. I'm really enjoying having something to capture mini slices of life, to help me focus on a single moment and not the chaos of life. I loved this little green leaf among...

Long exposures & Markets

Long exposures & Markets

I am pushing my own comfort boundaries and that night, I went to the christmas market with the leeds deaf photography group to practise my BSL, be social with new folks and pick up my camera again for me, to capture the world as I see it. This is what I saw.
