Today was another warehouse visit, this time to one near Kilkis in northern Greece, about a 20 minute journey from the Idomeni Camps. This ware house is BIG and full of donations that also have a heck of a lot of raw sorting to do. I don’t understand why more warehouses doing refugee clothes collections are not sorting them before shipping. It’s much easier to find volunteers in the countries that are sending aid than it is to find volunteers near the local camps who really could do with distributing the aid out to the refugees.
At this warehouse we learned their structure and after a few hours sorting the entire mens’ section into correctly sorted boxes that are sized small / medium and large / extra large. Firstly hauling out the mix of boxes that were incorrectly sorted, as we had a few womens and childrens boxes. Then putting them back in size order after confirming the box contents were correct. A number of boxes received were labelled wrong and had mixed sizes in from XS to XXL in one box. It means that it needs to be sorted into size in order to distribute effectively. When we left all of one size of mens’ was all sorted and stacked high in rows, the rest was piled on the other side ready to raw sort into appropriate boxes.
Time was running on and we needed to be back at Park Hotel so that I could meet up with Abdul Aziz and I forgot to take a photo from inside the warehouse on my phone or camera .. but look at these mountains in Greece. Aren’t they delicious to look at, it really helps give a small sense of peace looking out at the vista while driving between locations. A momentary respite.

Abdul Aziz is a very skilled photoshop wizkid. He has an amazing project he’s working on and having had no access to computers for over two months he was desperate to get back into using Photoshop. I’m a fellow tech geek and have it all on my laptop so we met up and he’s now producing another piece of artwork for his series. I can’t wait to share it when he’s finished and I’m impressed, even learning a new tool tip along the way.
I’ve been truly impressed in his work, shown on his mobile phone and his online accounts. I hope to get these links so that I can share his work out further to you, my readers. Until then …
